projection and socialism

Have you noticed that people who are quick to make accusations tend to be guilty of what they accuse?  This phenomenon is manifest in colloquial expressions such as, “when you point at me, four fingers are pointing at you.” In psychology, this is known as projection

Has anyone heard the term “socialism” being used lately?

so•cial•ism: a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of productiondistribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

The McPalin campaign has tried very hard to paint Obama as a socialist because of his “spread the wealth around” comment. The accusations have not benefited their campaign for two reasons. First, it is not true. What Obama described has been part of free market economics since its inception. It is called progressive taxation. McCain’s tax plan doesn’t change that at all. The difference between their plans is merely who bears the larger portion of the taxes.

The other reason the accusations failed has to do with the loudest accuser. Can anybody guess which state aggressively taxes the “rich” oil companies and then spreads that wealth around to its residents?  Can anybody guess which governor raised the taxes on oil, spread the extra wealth around, and left the rest of the country paying more for our fuel? Accusing your rival of being a socialist when you support far more socialistic policies smells a wee bit fishy.
