Olympic National Park - Sol Duc Falls

On my first trip into the Olympics I didn't know much about the area other than it was supposed to be beautiful. It turns out, I wasn't disappointed. :-) Even before I got to the North end of the Olympics where all the park entrances are, I had to drive through some absolutely beautiful country. This here is Crescent Lake and the color of the water reminded me of the alpine lakes in Canada that I love so much.

These two shots were taken down in the Sol Duc valley and is know as Sol Duc Falls. The falls are pretty large, it's a good 30 foot drop or so and the forest area that it's in is just magnificent. The trees are all three feet in diameter or more and they're HUGE, I can't even venture to guess how tall they are. The lumberjack in me just drools while walking through there. ;-)

Just another picture of Sol Duc Falls with a couple people behind the fence to give you some perspective. Like the rainbow? I did too. ;-) You can click on it for a larger version if you'd like.

This is a little 1700 year old tree they logged off a while back. If you click on the picture it'll give you a larger one and you can actually read the sign.
