This MacBook is the one I reviewed here. The MacBook was an interim laptop, to bridge the gap between my PowerBook and my new MacBook Pro, due to arrive later in the year. I skipped the first edition MacBook Pro, substantially because the MBP wasn’t substantially better than the MB. So I waited.
With the July 2007 MacBook Pro, Apple finally made the upgrade compelling. With the new Santa Rosa platform came support for 4GB of RAM, faster bus speeds, substantially upgraded graphics, better power management, and the LED backlight for the display. Those upgrades, combined with having the backlit keyboard, ExpressCard slot, larger LCD, and Firewire 800 were compelling enough that I just purchased my 15″ MacBook Pro.
The MacBook is a great little computer. While in Seattle this last week, I didn’t bother toting along my new 15″ MBP because the MacBook was already there. Even though the new MBP has a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo versus the MB 2.0 Core Duo, both are speedy enough that I don’t notice any difference in performance during typical use. What I really notice is the bigger better screen on the MBP, and other features mentioned above.
To remain in compliance with our household policy, “to keep a new toy, an old one must go,” the MacBook is on its way to Craigslist and/or eBay. That is, unless one of the handful of people that keep asking when I’ll upgrade next reads this post and buys it first. I can’t remember who asked first so the first person to put cash in my hand wins. Because it has been upgraded to 2GB of RAM, it’ll fetch about $1,000 on eBay. For a friend, I’ll sell it for a little less.
It includes the original boxes, install media, printed documentation, and apple remote. Everything that came with it (excepting the RAM upgrade) is included. The battery has 65 cycles on it so it is still in great condition. The battery is rated to hold 80% of a full charge at 300 cycles, so about 90% of its useful life remains.
The lid and bottom have minor scratches as all used MacBook’s do. I’ve heard of folks buffing them out but I find it easier not to look carefully and then I never notice them. The LCD display is perfect with no bad pixels.
Dear Friend,
I am looking for such a Macbook for my daughter – latest sales on Ebay are at about $800 for this config.
Is $750 plus shipping cost a number acceptable to you?
If so please contact me.
Thanks,
Bill Chirolas
Take a look again, and make sure to search for completed auctions that sold from reputable sellers. Then narrow that down to MacBooks upgraded with 2GB of RAM. You’ll find the average sale price ranges from about $900-$1,100.
Hi! I was wondering if you would be willing to sell your computer for $900 plus shipping fees. If you would not like to do that, then I completely understand.
Thank you,
Carson
One of your friends got married recently, this would make an EXCELLENT wedding present… đ
did you end up selling your macbook? im interested if it’s still up for sell.
The MacBook is sold. I do have a PowerBook G4 available.
I want to switch from a Dell to an Apple and was looking at the Macbooks. They are out of my price range right now (I would have bought yours!), so could you tell me the differences between an PowerBook and a Macbook? Can a PowerBook run Tiger? What kind of software is on it? What price did you have in mind?
I was just wondering if you still had the PowerBook G4…and if you do could you send me this information on it to the mail?
Thanks
